Questions,
Answered Plainly
The things people ask the desk most often. If yours is not here, call or leave your number — a person will answer.
Opening an account
What do I need to open an account?
PAN, Aadhaar linked to your mobile number, a bank account in your name (cancelled cheque or statement), a photograph and a signature. For F&O, currency or commodities you also need income proof.
Is there a sign-up fee?
No. Account opening is free. Brokerage and statutory charges apply on trades as per the tariff schedule you are given at onboarding.
How long does it take?
The online application takes a few minutes. The account is activated once documents are verified and the e-sign is complete.
Can a company, HUF or partnership open an account?
Yes. Non-individual accounts need additional documents — board resolution, deed or HUF declaration, authorised signatory list and entity PAN. The desk will send the checklist.
I live abroad. Can I invest?
Yes, through the NRI Desk. You will need an NRE or NRO bank account and, for listed shares, a PIS permission from your bank.
Trading & orders
How can I place an order?
Three ways on the same account: the Urja Trade mobile app, the desktop terminal, or Call-to-Trade with the dealing desk.
When do I receive my shares?
Equity trades settle on T+1. Shares bought for delivery are credited to your NSDL demat account after settlement.
What is a contract note and when do I get it?
It is the legal record of the day’s trades, emailed within 24 hours of execution and digitally signed.
What happens if I do not have enough margin?
You will be asked to add funds. If the shortfall is not met, positions may be squared off as per the risk policy and exchange rules.
Funds & withdrawals
How do I add funds?
Through the payment gateway in the app or back office, or by bank transfer from your registered bank account. Transfers from third-party accounts are not accepted.
How do I withdraw?
Place a payout request from the back office. The amount is paid to your registered bank account after settlement obligations are met.
Why is my full balance not withdrawable?
Unsettled sale proceeds, margin blocked on open positions and charges due are excluded until they clear.
Demat & holdings
Who holds my shares?
NSDL, in a demat account in your name. Urja Investment is the Depository Participant (DP ID IN305111).
Can I move holdings from another broker?
Yes. Holdings can be transferred between demat accounts without selling, including across depositories.
How do I add or change a nominee?
During account opening or later through the back office or a nomination form. SEBI requires every holder to nominate or formally opt out.
Safety & grievances
How do I know Urja is registered?
Every registration number is published on this site and can be checked on the SEBI, NSE, BSE, MCX, NSDL and AMFI websites.
I have a complaint. Where do I go?
Write to customer care first, then the compliance officer. If unresolved, use SEBI SCORES or the Smart ODR platform. All contacts are on the Legal page and in the footer.
Someone is offering assured returns in Urja’s name. Is that real?
No. A SEBI-registered broker cannot promise returns. Do not transfer money to any individual; report it to the compliance officer.
